La Main Tendue is available 24 hours a day for people who need help and support. Tél 143 is an emergency number available to anyone in a crisis situation, as well as to women and men of all ages who are experiencing temporary or long-term difficulties that affect their daily lives. Our service is based on active, person-centred listening and guarantees callers anonymity. La Main Tendue is a national organisation with 12 independent units, anchored regionally and locally in the three linguistic regions to ensure a response to Tel 143, email and chat. Volunteers are trained and supervised in a similar way in each centre, according to standards that comply with the principles of the International Federation of Telephone Emergency Services (IFOTES).
